Stuart Semmel is a Senior Lecturer in History and Humanities at Yale. He is the author of Napoleon and the British, a study of how British writers and artists used France's ruler to think about nationhood, government, and history. He has also published articles on tourism and radical politics. At Yale, he teaches classes on the nineteenth century, the British empire, political philosophy, and the role of history in film and literature.
