     Titus Kaphar (b. 1976) lives and works between New York City and Connecticut.  Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he earned his B.F.A. at San Jose State University and he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree at Yale University in 2006.
     In 2006, Kaphar served as the Artist in Residence at The Studio Museum, Harlem.  In 2009, he received the inaugural Gwendolyn Knight and Jacob Lawrence fellowship, awarded bi-annually to an emerging black artist, for his exhibition History in the Making.
    He has exhibited recently in Monaco, Berlin, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv.  Kaphar’s work is in the collections of the New Britain Museum of American Art, Connecticut; Pizzuti collection, Ohio; Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; and the Seattle Museum of Art, Washington.
