Fourth version, exhibited at the Art Treasures Exhibition, Manchester, 1857

In 1857, Lord Ward contributed several works to the Manchester Art Treasures exhibition. His Italian pictures (Raphael, Crivelli, Guercino), attracted the most attention, but he also lent a number of sculptures, including Powers’s Greek Slave, works by Lawrence Macdonald, and Canova’s Venus and Dying Magdalene.
