Third version, exhibited at the Lyceum Hall, New York, 1849

The quartet of Powers’s statues shown in Boston over the summer of 1849 traveled back to New York and by October appeared at the Lyceum Hall. The four works were installed in the Gallery of Old Masters, which contained some sixty paintings belonging to collector Gideon Nye (1812–88). The exhibition was open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; admission was 25 cents, season tickets were 50 cents.
