Offered at auction, New York, 1900

Following Henry Hilton’s death in 1899, the Stewart statues, including The Greek Slave, were put up for auction at Chickering Hall in New York. Newspapers reported the statues’ drop in value. The highest price paid was $825 for Powers’s Eve Tempted. The Greek Slave appears to have passed into the estate, unsold.
