Acquired by Henry Hilton, New York, 1890

In 1890, Hilton leased the Stewart mansion to the Manhattan Club and took possession of the statues. (Some newspapers erroneously reported that the mansion was sold to the club.) He lent several to Denning’s department store on Broadway, but The Greek Slave was not among those listed. Its whereabouts over the next years is uncertain. It may have been moved to Hilton’s country estate in Saratoga.[1]
