The Greek Slave was displayed in the Cosmopolitan Art Association’s newly constructed gallery in Sandusky, Ohio, until February 1855, when the lottery prize-draw was held. For a $3 subscription fee, members were able to choose a magazine and receive a ticket for “an equal chance of drawing the $5,000 statue of the Greek Slave, or Venus, Bacchante, Hebe, Flora, with Bronze Statuettes and several hundred Magnificent Oil Paintings.”
